by Sarah Ortiz, DPT
Many people have or will sustain some type of injury within their lifetime. Injuries can have last effects on one’s lifestyle if a person does not recovery properly. People have gone many routes for injury recovery, including physical therapy. Physical therapy is very beneficial for injury recovery and for post-surgical recovery.
Physical therapy is health care that remedy impairments and disability caused by illness or injury. Physical therapists are specialists trained in musculoskeletal function, movement, and movement disorders. When a physical therapist evaluated a patient, they understand the mechanics of the injury and specific structures that are impaired. They then develop specific plans of care for each patient that will address pain, weakness, and any functional limitations. PTs will also educate patient on strategies to avoid future injury.
Multiple research studies have shown that undergoing physical therapy treatment improves recovery time and decrease risk of future injuries. When undergoing physical therapy treatment, patients will learn how to properly recover and retrain their body to perform tasks that were impacted by the injury. Patients will also learn the tools to help prevent the injury from reoccurring or help manage chronic pain and conditions. Choosing to complete physical therapy treatment is a great and efficient way to get back to your activities and life.
